Yahoo vs. Google: An Evolutionary Timeline

MIT's John Maeda has delved deep into the Internet Archive to create a fascinating year-by-year, side-by-side comparison of the home page layouts of Yahoo and Google.

As is immediately obvious when comparing the screens, Yahoo's home page has grown progressively more complicated over the years, while Google's has stayed breathtakingly simple. Google's "less is more" approach may be why, Maeda suggests, that 'we "google" things on the Web more often than we "yahoo!" things.'
