Good point. I meant it as a date using that calendar I mentioned in the Bursine Calendar entry. Nonce would be a day of the month, i.e. Ides, and is an exceedingly pointless pun.
<blockquote>"Something most curious has happened. When I woke this morning, it was to find a number of cacti lying entirely on their sides, shriveled in all parts but the widest of the trunk, from which I was able to extract a great deal of good water. I also found the rock I tripped over a number of days ago, not ten paces from my place of awakening. But I paced off the forest, and know it was at least fifty paces in its expanse... I find this most curious."</blockquote>

This is also the earliest example of Modern Standard Ghyllian. The then-unusual spellings and phrasings of the later entries completely befuddled professors at the Bureau for quite some time, until they had studied the passages so intently as to speak in the manner in which they were written. This proceeded to dissmenate throughout the land, and is now the usual spoken tongue.

There was a documented study of the cactus forests conducted in -5 EC; the results determined that the Rich Earth Cacti manage to rise up to great sizes very quickly with only a small bit of moisture, though they shrivel after several days. All those involved in the study died on Rishbard Nonce, -2 EC, all of perfectly natural, ordinary, causes.

The Bursine Calendar is so named for Bursine the 14th, an otherwise unremarkable Hive-Lord of the Nitenmangrey. Bursine the 14th made a gift of the calendar to his Paramount Queen, Litivia, on their joining day. While any other great works he may have forged have been forgotten by time, his calendar has survived. I applaud the Encyclopedants for adopting it into their new EC notation for this project's Encyclopedant Calendar with nothing more than a reset of the zero year. The old counting system was getting quite unwieldy, so I deem this an acceptable change.

For those unfamiliar with the specific names of the days of the week and months of the year in the old Bursine Calendar (as well as the new dating system adopted by the Encyclopedants for this great work), allow me to list them for you.

Days of the Week: Tuesday, Ulfsday, Varhookan, Ween, Xarochsday, YinYin, Zalestra.

Months of the Year:

# Ablinth
# Baros
# Conti
# Darwina
# E
# Fusil
# Gomin
# Homin
# Ikk
# Jole
# Kendrit
# Lom

Therefore, today's date in EC reckoning of 0/1/12 EC is also "YinYin, the 12th of Ablinth of the year 0." I think the old date and day names have much more personality than the dry numerical notation, so I will attempt to use them both in my future entries, and I hope my fellow researchers will as well.

One additional note of interest about the Bursine Calendar is that the best minds of Ghyll still have no idea why, when rendered into core script as I've done above, the days of the week, and months of the year fall into alphabetic order. Core script clearly post-dates the Nitenmangrey by at least a few centuries, so either Bursine himself could see into the future and crafted an elaborate joke for us, or more likely, the original translator of the Bursine Calendar into core script took some aesthetic liberties.
It should, of course, be noted that the Bursine calendar is hardly the only Ghyllian calendar in existence. I myself have always preferred the lovely & sophisticated Ellekaisic calendar, what with its subtleties regarding the refraction of moonlight through the last standing glass shard from a broken bottle down at the nearest pub and how that affects the name of the day tomorrow. Glorious system, really. Provides me hours of entertainment as I try to figure out whether I'm late with my most recent progress report. --Prothall 22:03, 22 Sep 2004 (EDT)

The latest in a continuing salvo of skirmishes over which lighting technomancy is the strongest.

The now rogue scientist Meldersen, creator of "Awal Sleeps" is a vital member, and his weapons are deployed against Iganefta.

Iganefta, in turn, has developed Ball Lightning Liqueur.

The active use of Ball Lightning Liqueur and "Awal Sleeps" has only been predominant within the last 50 years.

Bobby Shwarmph is said to be a veteran, serving (formerly?) as a platoon leader in the Tarkherk Corps.

Spearholder Jan ver Daath (Retired), also of the Tarkherk Corps, alias Bethany Mboya, is a former participant.

Occurred during the Extraordinarily Bloodless Revolution, more or less. Note: may be deleted.
: That entry hasn't been copyedited yet, but my impression was that the EBR was part of the CTINH - a change of "in which occurred" to "which occurred in". If the CTINH was named because of the continued existence of these battles, and the most well known battle (nowhere is it said to be the first battle - just the most well known) took place as early as -323 EC, then the EBR is a part of that (as it takes place "right before -250 EC"). --Morbus Iff 08:36, 18 Sep 2004 (EDT)

This is your puppy, deal with it as you see fit. I interpreted the CTINH as being named as it was not happening; didn't consider the currency of the name. --Prothall 21:28, 22 Sep 2004 (EDT)

The Budgerigar Master is a mysterious historical figure, often taken as a symbol of great political or social change that is not associated with death. He is noted as appearing and serving in the court of Odgar IV from c. -250 EC, right before the Extraordinarily Bloodless Revolution, in which occurred (more or less) the Conflict That Is Not Happening. He always had with him a cage of the birds for which he was named, though just what he did with them is unclear. He is assumed to be a mythical figure, as references to him in tales suggest appearances dating as far back as -2000 EC. No one has claimed to see him since roughly -50 EC, when a drunken mendicant supplied a highly questionable report. Budgerigars have been assumed to be generally extinct since -100 EC, though various important families or organizations sometimes maintain small groups of the birds. There are roughly ten documented budgerigars still living.

The best known tale of the Budgerigar Master is the epic poem by Arariax which relates various older legends about the figure.

An Anaximancer is a person who has, by some means, seemingly gained the ability to produce objects of all sorts from thin air. There is supposedly an instructional work towards these methods, known as the "Echecharion", which relates how "thyngs may bee prodvced from thet 'Boondliss' wich is byond ye siying of myrtle man". No known original copies of this work exist; two copies, transcribed from unknown sources and suspected of being more or less fake, are held in the Odlucian Library. These copies date to roughly -70EC.

The most famous Anaximancer was Edvard von Craghelm, who appeared one day in an unnamed small village and began to put on a great show. He proceeded to tour about the country in a random manner, never staying too long in one place, until he died under mysterious circumstances while travelling near a moor in -20EC. Objects he produced are largely privately held, though a number are contained in various museums.
