. . . : ; C h i c o ' s G r o o v e ; : . . . . . . : ; . . . : ; thgieytriht - july 1 1999 . . . : ; . . . : ; http://www.disobey.com/ . . . : ; The "THREE MORE DAYS" Notice Hey! Three more days for the rest of the world to get drunk, look up at the pretty colors in the sky, and try vainly not to beat their kids in frustration. The run on those breakable glow lights has begun. . . . : ; The "AND YOURSELF?" Notice What am I going to be doing, you ask? I'll probably get my sorry ass dragged to some cookout where I'll sit around and scarf down some food, wondering about all the things I could be doing to take over the wo... uh... weekend. Yeah. . . . : ; ANNOUNCEMENTS and i smell something *really* good... NEW DEVIL SHAT (#FiftyThree): So I got bored and had an onion bagel with tons of peanut butter. I had to write Devil Shat. No ideas, no ideas. Hey, I'll watch the news! Uh oh. Bad idea for Morbus. Read some more of his rambling, as well as an entertaining piece from John Treacy (slowly becoming a regular). Blasts of Littleton, Tingle, and Republicans. Poster boy! NEW GHOST SITES (#28): A new Ghost Sites was released, rather quickly, as you'll remember that a new one came along just a few weeks ago. Along with all the depravity that you've been expecting, you can find a startling new development in Web Decay: "404 Not Found". Check it out and satisfy your curiosity. NEW NETSLAVES: It's been a while, we know, but you really can't tell when you're about to be hit by car. Or how soon deadlines leap out at you. Perhaps you're busy now, trying to hurry to work. You realize, however, that you've been desperately seeking Part II of Cindy, Social Worker. Has her ship rolled in? ZERO GETS INCREDIBLY REVAMPED: We took a hard look at Zero and determined that no one cares about images or design when they come to a music site. They care about music (wow!). So, Zero overdoses on that ideal in a redesign with no images - just plain glorious text (not even HTML!), as well as almost an entirely new song selection. If you've liked (or hated) John Treacy's stuff before, you're required to take another look see. MINOR UPDATES: All the collected Kudos I had sitting on my hard drive were updated, so Disobey's ego list is even longer now (the sad thing is that in recent weeks, Ghost Sites has been labeled as Brittanica's Site of the Day, and NetSlaves made it into Time Magazine); tons of new email were added to Devil Shat with one added to Four, four added to Fifty One, and Four added to Fifty Two; a little story about sheep was added to the Detergent Sheep movie, it relates quite nicely (what? you haven't seen the Sheep Movie? How can you survive?!); the "Sample Issue" line was added to every listing at Low Bandwidth (ooh - did that really deserve mention?)... . . . : ; EVERYTHING else and but alas, it has been eaten... WHOO DOG: Welp, I think I've finally done it: I've established a firm grip on the amount of new email each day, and I almost always have the chance to answer shortly after it comes in! This is excitement at it's finest! Go ahead! Email Morbus and see what he does! He's a cute little play thing - no, really! WASTED TIME: I really need to stop spending my money as it seems to spend my time as well. I had enough pocket change to decide to buy a game for my many systems. I decided upon Turok 2, since I had heard it was pretty good. And you know what? It is! Any game that takes me two to three hours to finish the first level gets my vote (and I don't suck, trust me, the level was just really, really long). WASTED TIME, PART TWO: If you plan on reading the newest Devil Shat, you'll know that the cable channel lineup in our area has undergone an annoying, drastic change. But, there is one good thing about it: I have wonderful access to the Sci-Fi Channel, which I remember pleading for when it first came out years ago. Along with Turok 2, it has given me many reasons to sit in a chair and be lazy (Dark Shadows, Twilight Zone, old episodes of Sliders, Hellraiser and other assorted good movies, MST3K, etc.). PGPYOUKNOWME: I had to suck down PGP to be qualified to be on this new beta list (whose software seems to have died due to legal complications), so I've been dealing with that, and struggling to not fuck it up. So far, I've had good luck. If anyone cares to know my public key, give a shout. I feel so 'leet now (bwa ha!). MOVIES WATCHED: Pretty slim pickings this week due to Turok 2 and the Sci-Fi Channel and some annoying thing called Disobey: DERANGED (some fiction-mentary about Ed Gein), SLIDING DOORS (good, recommended, non-horror), and THE CHANGELING (which was a so-so haunted house flick). . . . : ; BLAHBLAHS OF THE WEEK: ( june 18th - july 1st ) [Software-of-the-Week]-= Microsoft Office 97 ---You know, as much as I dislike how Microsoft runs itself and the ---companies around it, I must say that Office 97 is a happy piece ---of work. I had never really played around with it until this week ---and I must say, I enjoy it. That probably just earned me about ---two hundred unsubscribes, though. Damn. [The-Good-Old-of-the-Week]-= Candy, candy, Candy! ---I always knew that the local suckass mall had a candy store, ---but it was only last weekend that I actually went in there and ---bought anything. A pound of candy for $5.00. Good candy, in all ---different varieties. I had a delicious time, bringing back ---memories of sucking on those chalky cigarette sticks, and ---FunDip-ping my way to ecstasy. [Annoyance-of-the-Week]-= Dealing with Bell Atlantic ---Working at an ISP, I know how annoying it can be dealing with ---the phone company, especially one like Bell Atlantic. I've come ---to hate hearing about their treachery, and it brings me no ---excitement or happiness when I have to shove money into an ---envelope for their crusty pockets. Argh. [Hey!-Second-Annoyance-of-the-Week]-= Perl crypt() ---The new secret project that I entered into last issue requires ---me to build an entire backend to the site in Perl (well, it doesn't ---REQUIRE me too, but it's gonna suck if I don't). I also need to ---keep password protected user accounts. Having encrypted crap ---before, I thought it should have been relatively easy to ---make sure that two passwords matched when comparing. Unfortunately, ---I made it much harder by making a stupid error in my previous ---code and not noticing it until three handfuls of hair were lost. [Buy-Me-of-the-Week]-= A New Macintosh Keyboard ---I've been looking closely at the keyboard that I've had for the ---past four years for one of my systems (a Mac, I know, I know), ---and have come to the startling realization that it's the dirtiest ---thing that I've seen in a while. Sure, it still works, but I'm ---surprised it doesn't smell (hmm... maybe I'm just used to it). ---So, if anyone wants to send me some money (freakin' Mac crap is ---expensive, mind you), have a blast and ask for my snail. . . . : ; The Issue Was Surprisingly Easy To Write . . . : ; SUBSCRIBE: majordomo@disobey.com BODY: Subscribe ChicosGroove . . . : ; UNSUBSCRIBE: majordomo@disobey.com BODY: Unsubscribe ChicosGroove
