How can people stand WOW! chips, let alone diet soda? I don't know either. . . . : ; The "BUT-MY-POINT-WAS" Notice I just need something new to drink. I walk down the soda aisles, and nothing appeals to me anymore. I've been on the Ecto-Cooler kick already. Caffeinated water just doesn't do it for me, and milk was old when they started automated the process. And, yes, I tried Orbitz when it first came out, and didn't like the added "straining" action you had to do to drink the damn thing. This sucks. . . . : ; ANNOUNCEMENTS and someone needs to send me some drinks... ONE YEAR, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!: In a fanfare of "the date passed by" and "oop, I forgot about that", the Disobey.com website turned ONE YEAR OLD on the third of August. And we missed it. We didn't even plan any celebration. Sniff. It's probably going to get pissed at us now. Ah twell. We've been through a helluva lot, and brought you more content then one person would think possible. Yeah... we got work to do. Happy Birthday, Disobey, I love you. NEW DEVIL SHAT (#ThirtyThree): This issue concludes the two part series on the legalization of drugs and why it shouldn't happen. Based upon the amount of email that we received, it seems like the first article raised a lot of people's hackles. You should go read the emails we added. They bring up some issues which I have not addressed in either of the parts. And be sure to send some email in response to the final four arguments of our mystery writer. NEW GHOST SITES (#18): Filled with many a decrepit site, Ghost Sites of the Web is the ultimate resource for that which is dead. Take a look at a "portal" before there were "portals", weirdo movie-speak from Berkeley, a site whose goal was to archive your website when YOU died (what a fateful twist!), and much, much more. And hey, we're STILL a featured site in the New York Times. So there. LOW BANDWIDTH: Modified some more of the archives due to some agreements we've been entering into... Seems we are really fulfilling a lot of want for an archive. That makes me happy. I still have much to do. Oh yeah, added one new listing. Also changed the front page and all the assorted content on that as well as doing a better job organizing how the archives were dealt with. And added the "How You Can Help Us" page along with two new "i was feeling weird" link images for people to use. This is excitement at its peak. DEBUGGING SOME MORE: Finished debugging the Devil Shat section this week, and that was certainly a pain in the ass... but it definitely caught some glaring errors that I should have seen, but just slipped by. Writing code is like revising a paper without reading it out loud... you think you caught everything, but BOY, WERE YOU WRONG. Also finished debugging Ghost Sites and Zero. Yeah, I saved Low Bandwidth for last, because I cheated and did a quick bug check on one page. Sniff, sniff. It's gonna take a bit. But hey! I'm doing it for you!!!! Ok... enough sucking up. Anyways, spent most of the morning on Friday debugging Low Bandwidth, and I can say that I do feel better about it. SPELL [GROAN] CHECKING: Since I finished the debugging, I started running through the site with spell checking. This is even more tedious than debugging... sheesh. Anyways, started backwards for a change, and finished up all the sections including the associated text files. Took me the rest of my Friday morning, and well into the evening. Man, am I a loser or what? IMAGEREADYSETGO: Adobe ImageReady is simply awesome. I recommend it to anyone who has the chance of getting it. Consider it a Photoshop for the web. With incredible compression ability. Because of this, I have started going through every image on the Disobey site to compress them even more. Shaved off 30k off the Zero directory as it is. That's impressive considering I thought they could be compressed no more. Anyways, after completing every image, I can now say that you will see no noticable difference... besides the fact that I can see about 500k shaved off the 200 or so images that make up Disobey. . . . : ; EVERYTHING else and if you have one, email me SADNESS: I'd like to take this time and space to ask you to be a little easy on me. One of my cats, Baby, died today, Tuesday the 11th in the final stages of leukemia. She has been with me since I was just a tot. I bawled my fucking eyes out. She was all black with beautiful eyes, and the loudest mouth you could have ever heard. She cuddled with me in my arms each and every night I went to bed, begged like a dog for lovings, and was generally, all around, closer to me than most humans. She will be dearly missed. I love you, Baby. LEARNING 1-800: I feel so much smarter now... Hehehe... I have actually begun what I have wanted to for quite a while: getting the chance to take an hour away from my schedule each day and just sitting down and learning something. Right now, I am alternating between BASIC, Perl for CGI scripting, and Photoshop 5.0. Photoshop will be done in about a week, and I plan to move to Flash. Or so I hope. I just like the time I have given myself... I feel like my new abilities will definitely help me with my creative ideas. Time management rocks. . . . : ; BLAHBLAHS OF THE WEEK: ( july 31th - august 13th ) [Movie-of-the-Week]-= Halloween: H20 ---No doubt about it. This movie kicked ass. Akkad returns to direct ---the final movie in the series that began with little Michael Myers ---killing his sister. This is quality at its most... what happens ---when a creation returns to its father. [Other-Movies-We-Saw-of-the-Week]-= Not that Much... ---Ripe (a coming of age movie for females; "no one stays innocent ---forever... not that bad, actually... a la Doom Generation); ---Child's Play 2 (that guy keeps coming back, anyone see the preview ---in "Snake Eyes"?) [Ooga-Booga-of-the-Week]-= Zero... ho-hum. ---It's starting again. It's annoying.
