Lesson Two: Not All NetSlaves Are Created Equal

NetSlaves like to see things in black and white terms - High and Low, Good and Evil, Boss and Employee, Oppressor and Oppressed. The Truth is, as with life itself - it ain't so simple. A complex pecking order pervades the Internet biz with the same rigidity present in more "traditional" industries. Sure, the technology and the balance sheet may be different, but when you come down to unraveling it, you find that the New Media World is just the latest act in a drama that's been going on since time began.

To drive this point home, we have put together our version of the pecking order, or if you will, the New Media Caste System. In shape and tone, you will find that the System has more in common with Hieronymous Bosch or Weegie's "Naked City" than anything a Brahman would recognize. Leaving the buzzwords to the Managers, we have substituted everyday job titles for the cryptic nonsense ("Are there any 'People Network Coordinators' in da house?!) we have all grown too familiar with. Our goal, as ever, is to put things in the clearest and basest terms that even people lucky enough not to work in this business will understand.

Some of you will undoubtedly be offended by the results. Others will dismiss them. But hopefully a few of you will be amused enough to see what we're getting at. NetSlaves need to know which caste they belong to if they are to figure out the particular rules they must follow in order to survive. Workers of the Web, may you live long - or at least long enough to get a better-paying job.
