In this issue: WELCOME QUOTABLE ONTARIO POLITICSHITE OVERFUCKINGREACTINGSHITE SOFTWARE LOB/INSTAGON FOUNDATION ETC :: WELCOME :: Welcome to the "my karma ran over my dogma" issue. Whatever that means. I saw that on a bumper sticker and in a fit of road rage went over and pummeled the driver of the offending vehicle until his head was a bloody melon. OK, I didn't really. Actually I laughed and made a mental note to include the quote in VD. In a related note though Toronto drivers have just be proven to be the worse, most inconsiderate (not to mention stupid) drivers in Canada (or something like that). I heard the last bit of a news item about a study done on Canadian drivers and those were the results. As I said though I just caught the tail end of the report and I almost took out 6 people at a bus stop while reaching to turn up the volume while talking on my cell phone and to my passenger. Sheesh. Why were they standing so close to the curb anyways? Morons... For those of you complaining that I was picking on Yanks too much... Live with it. I visited Michael Moore's (yes, he's American) "The Awful Truth" web page (http://www.theawfultruth.com/) and found these gems that in their own way explain why I was picking on y'all... 51% of all Republicans believe that taking nighttime medicine during the day makes their job a lot more enjoyable. 45% of all Americans believe that the Millennium would have come faster "if it had been handled by private enterprise and not by the government." Bwahahaha ahahahahaha Silly Americans.... Actually I kind agree with the first statistic but that's another intro. Anyone ever seen the Canadian show "This Hour has 22 Minutes"? They have a segment called "Talking to Americans" where they ask really stupid Canadian content questions to U.S. Senators, university profs, mayors, average Americans, etc., and their answers are incredibly....uh....insightful? to the American ignorance of their Canadian neighbours. I remember seeing one show where a southern mayor was congratulating Canada on it's new National Igloo and on finally getting its own currency. All sorts of really stupid answers to really stupid questions that are taken serious by our closest neighbours.... When reading these quasi anti-American comments remember one thing: Canada's favourite sport is beating Americans at anything... I saw the latest Star Wars flick last weekend. I've never been a fan of Star Wars but my 6 year old son is so off we went. We went to the newest theatre around here called The Collossus. It is a huge assed building that is built as a replica of a flying saucer. Lights, lasers, search lights, smoke - and that all on the outside. Inside it has all sorts of Star Trek stuff including a totally cool full Borg replica. Predictably, my son loved it (the building and the movie). As for the movie - I was amused in parts, bored in parts, intrigued in parts. It's not a bad film (Cronenberg's eXistenZ is *bad* film), but it's not a great film either. I thought the special effects in The Matrix were done better but I wouldn't take my son to see that film . Over all though Star Wars - The Phantom Menace is a fun evening waster for the none Star Wars fan if you include the building in the mix... In other news, just heard from Morbus yesterday. With an hour to spare he found new digs and is in the process of re-establishing his Empire Of Global Domination (Disobey.com) as you read this. I heard from A-P as well. He says piss-off everyone and let him do his work. Actually he didn't say that, I just thought I would fuck with him while he is seeking inspiration for AntiPress #7. Anyways, here we go again...enjoy or don't - your choice. :: QUOTABLE :: "My Karma ran over my Dogma" -bumper sticker "When Darth Maul was cut in half he was just like a Lego man" -Connor aged 6 :: ONTARIO POLITICSHITE :: Progressive Conservatives Liberals New Democrats X Green Party Vote Green. http://www.greenparty.on.ca/ Yeah. For those of you who don't know (or care?) Ontario is in the middle of rather boring election campaign. Next issue I'll tell you who won. :: OVERFUCKINGREACTINGSHITE :: I got this item in the mail last night... From: Ztainment@aol.com -<>- - SCHOOL VIOLENCE RESULTS IN NO BUFFY FINALE - The WB announced Monday that the second part of the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER season finale, which is also the lead-in to creator Joss Whedon's spin-off series ANGEL, will not be shown Tuesday night at 8 as scheduled. It is expected to be delayed until later in the summer, when we'll hopefully see the other pulled episode, "Earshot," but I think all us BUFFY fans should be thankful the series won't be dealing with high school kids next season... The encore episode "Band Candy" where the adults all start acting like impulsive kids will be shown in its place. (hmmm...I thought the murdering brats in Colorado were doing their own imitation of impulsive NRA adults -Ed) WB CEO Jamie Kellner released the following statement: "It is out of sympathy and compassion for the families and communities that have been devastated by the recent senseless acts of violence perpetrated on high school campuses that we have decided to delay this broadcast. Our decision is also borne out of a deep sense of responsibility to The WB's loyal young audience. (yeah, sure -Ed) At issue for us was a short part of the climactic scene of this powerful two-part season finale. During a solar eclipse that occurs during his commencement speech at Sunnydale High's graduation ceremony, the mayor morphs into a 60-foot serpent and attacks the students. In turn, Buffy and her classmates are forced to defend themselves. Given the current climate, depicting acts of violence at a high school graduation ceremony, even fantasy acts against 60-foot serpents and vampires, we believe, is inappropriate to broadcast around the actual dates of these time-honored ceremonies. -Yeah, I totally see the similarities. Man, that's noble of them to postpone the broadcast. WB aren't just uncaring, money grubbing business geeks, they're real human beings....puke....gag...FUCK-OFF...please... And in similar pussy-assed fashion this from the same source: FOX has announced it'll likely tone down the violence in Chris Carter's new cyber-thriller, HARSH REALM, in the wake of the recent multiple school shootings. CBS has also removed the mob drama FALCONE from its schedule. http://www.harshrealm.com -Yeah. Whatever. :: SOFTWARE :: Every now and then I come across some great software in the course of my job and I thought I would share a couple of those with you. If you need an office suite (word processor, spreadsheet, graphics) type of package but don't want to give Billy G. anymore coinage then check out these two gems: Software602's PCSuite and StarOffice. Both products are fully compliant with MS Office97 products. You can read, edit, save, create in native MS formats (.doc, .xls, etc.), as well as HTML, .wpd (WordPerfect) and various other formats without ever having to use MS bloatware. Both packages are installed on my laptop at home and both work exactly as they claim to. StarOffice was a bit a bitch to install but that was because of my own doing. They customize the download to the inDUHvidual, including the personal info you supply at their web site before downloading. If you add a space or a period on the registration info during install it craps out. Be careful. And the file size of StarOffice 5.0 is 50+ meg. Software602's PC Suite, word processor, spreadsheet and graphics apps comes as a trial edition from http://www.602pro.com - a full version of the product is only $49.95, yes that's right $49.95. Talk about trying to compete with MS. If you have a forum for writing/publishing reviews of Software602 you can get the product for free. Check out their web site for details. Star Office 5.0 (actually I think they're at version 5.2 now) includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and graphics apps. It is available for Windows, OS/2, Linux, Solaris, Java and a server version. Wow. But the real kicker is - it's a free download for non-commercial use. That's truly incredible. To get a product this good for free?!?!? I think I may just delete Office97 from my system... http://www.stardivision.com :: LOB/INSTAGON FOUNDATION :: I got this from the Instagon mailing list and thought I'd pass it on to any readers in Southern California local tonight...
