. . . : ; C h i c o ' s G r o o v e ; : . . . . . . : ; . . . : ; evifytrof - january 13 2000 . . . : ; . . . : ; http://www.disobey.com/ . . . : ; The "WHOO-DOG!" Notice Wow. I stink. Not stink as in "you beat me at Battle Ship again!" but stink as in "damn, did you live on a battle ship?". Huh. I wonder why. Oh yeah. I know why. It's winter. With no snow. And lotsa sunshine. Taking showers in January is so... so... foreign. . . . : ; The "BITTEN LIP, SUNKEN SHIP, PART 2" Notice For those who keep up on this sort of thing, my lip is now completely healed. Of course, you'd expect that in a month's worth of time, but when I'm sitting here deleting what I wrote last month to fill it with this month's news, everything seems relative. . . . : ; ANNOUNCEMENTS and a perpetual nose drip... NEW DEVIL SHAT (#Sixty): Morbus waxes philosophical along with the help of the greatest scientific mind of this century: Stephen Hawking... and rejoices at what the future will bring. Also up to bat is the "Honor thy father and mother" commandment in Rown Garnbii's fifth article exposing his betting card for redemption. NEW NETSLAVES: With book sales still going strong, we find time to humor and frighten you with another edition of NetSlaves: "Kathy is a Net DJ. No, she isn't one of those people broadcasting from her bedroom to three people out there. She works for a serious station that uses real equipment and actually has a budget. If you're as amazed as we are about this, read on. You might learn something you could use for 'My Own World' radio. Of course, you could always go back to shouting over the ol' police scanner." NEW PROJECT HYPED AND THEN SIDELINED: For a bit of almost two weeks last month, all I did was eat, breathe, and sleep Perl. And not just any Perl, but "spent 42 bucks on a 'how to do OOP in Perl'" book which turned out to be a good buy. You see, there was a secret project I was working on, which only a close knit group of Disobey groupies knew about. After having completed the first "so new it's not even alpha" version, it's been unceremoniously pushed aside. After being complained to by at least five people that DNN wasn't being kept up to snuff, I've told myself to focus on Disobey. Focus on Disobey. It's hard though. This project would have rocked if you gave me the time. Bastards. I hate you. MINOR CHANGES: Minor changes occurred to Ghost Sites, the front page of Disobey, and the About section. This change came in the form of "the box", which will eventually make its way to every page of the site. Gives me some power in cross pollination, plus lets me reach all of the Disobey readers without depending on DNN. All through the use of a server side include. Gotta love those things! TRYING: As you'll notice, almost nothing got done on Disobey this past month. Combined with Christmas celebration, gaming, and mindless attempts to do something exciting, new, and 'kick-ass' in Perl, I didn't really have any time. Yet, enough people complained (s . i . g . h), so I'll be attempting to get back on track in the coming days. If I don't, be sure to email me and start bitching. Nothing says loving like a fire in my oven. . . . : ; EVERYTHING else and creates a lot to drink... FURNITURE: Massive cleaning and reorganizing this month as I leech a new (old) file cabinet off my boss at work, and just all in all, try to make the house a little better and more organized. Not a clue if we've accomplished it, but Saturday cleanings seem to have become a normal affair. And we always make about 2 tons of trash... which is disturbing - do I really have this much junk?! A FIRST: Christmas (and that dreaded y2k) obviously passed recently, and a rather enjoyable first occurred with myself and my love, Katie: the decoration of a Christmas tree. Having grown up with almost none, it was strange at first, and then strangely cozy and enjoyable. Picking a candy cane off each day, turning on the little star light thing at the top, and stuffing the bristles up your nose to get a whiff. It was sad putting it out on the curb, but nice knowing that it would become a new tradition in my life. FINALLY, DUAL BOOT: Finally got Redhat and NT sitting together on a dual boot, and finally got Redhat to recognize my POS graphics card and the unsupported sound card I had bought. It's all roses and candy. The only thing to do now is wait for Windows 2000 so I can play some decent games on the thing. (Games and NT? No. Doesn't work. Nope). GAMES, PART ONE: I've been playing a lot of games recently ("research! research!"), primarily Unreal Tournament (fell in lust with the demo which actually worked on NT, too damn cheap to buy a 3D card to get Q3A running). Then, the next weekend, I went out and bought The Myth Codex for twenty bucks and discovered that the game ain't for me. GAMES, PART TWO: As a favor, we drove two kids up to FunSpot over the weekend with ten dollars in each of their pockets. It was wonderful timing - Twin Galaxies was holding their Coronation Day. Twin Galaxies are the people who maintain the Video Game and Pinball World Record book. Anyways, because of this little Coronation Day thing, I was able to see the guy who got the perfect score on PacMan, AND see a guy break the 1985 world record for Super PacMan by getting over a million points. I tell ya. It sounds dry to some people, but I was having a blast. There's a tournament next June. The second annual. 4 days. Guess whose been practicing? . . . : ; BLAHBLAHS OF THE WEEK: ( december 10th - january 13th ) [Redecoration-of-the-Week]-= Movie Posters ---Although parts of our walls seem to be made of a weak sort of ---tissue conglomeration, some is sturdy enough to support movie ---posters and the requisite "quality backing board". As such, our ---house is now lovingly decorated with posters of horror, fright, ---and romantically artistic fear. [Game-of-the-Week]-= Yahtzee! ---The clear winner this month was the good old "ooh! I can touch ---it!", dice clacking Yahtzee. We must've played about 200 games ---Sadly enough, in an attempt to make Yahtzee "better", I ---started playing around with some statistical analysis program ---in Perl, which as is tradition, was unceremoniously pushed to ---the side.
