This is not anything exciting. This is not the latest Devil Shat, or the latest Ghost Sites, or the latest little project we are working on. This is not something to think about at night and wonder what meaning it will have on your life. . . . : ; The "OBLIGATORY PARADOX" Notice This is not Chico's Groove. . . . : ; ANNOUNCEMENTS and all that other phosphorous material THE META RENEWAL PROGRAM: You know, with a new year, you should do something that makes you feel like you have started all over again. So, we went crazy and modified all the meta on our site. Meta is this stuff that some search engines search your site by to see if a request matches what you have. When we first started coding the site, meta was relatively new to us, and as such, we made some mistakes. Well, with our incredible amounts of increased meta knowledge (??), we revised everything. Isn't that exciting. Of course, if you type in "disobey" in your HotBot search engine, we'll appear first. AND NEW DEVIL SHAT (#Eighteen): Indecision '98. Morbus wrote that in the new coffee shop (see below) which is a nice place to be. When an old reader gets bored of Devil Shat, what goes through his head? Do you have ideas for Devil Shat, and where you would like to see it going? Reply to this with your comments. Oh yeah, its got some DUMP in it too. ADVERTISING ON GHOST SITES: Some random day these past week, we uploaded a modified Ghost Sites. One with something that some consider evil: advertising. Whether you consider it evil or not is really not our concern. They came to us with a desire to advertise. And they said they would pay us. Can't beat that. People coming to us with money to put up some stupid banner. Ok. Sure, why not? NEW AWARDS: The website got two new awards this past week. One for our coding and load time of our pages (someone finally loves our well-organized code, sniff, sniff) and one from this site called FishTinky. Both are nice little places, but, FishTinky is great if you're into comicartbookmagazine things. In case you haven't been there, the award page is http://www.disobey.com/detergent/award.htm It is here that we slander the very awards we have won. Each award should be special, but when the presentation of such is horrible, you have to say something. Check it out. READER'S DIGEST RIP: It has recently come to our attention (through mail from a reader) that one of the articles we printed in a Devil Shat (the xmas issue, to be exact) was actually a reprint from a Reader's Digest. We are forever sorry for doing something like this. We hadn't known. Someone had sent us the piece through the mail, and we failed to check its legality or its previous whereabouts. Please accept our apology, and we will make sure it won't happen again. QUICK UPDATES: Quote script now has 271 quotes in it. . . . : ; EVERYTHING else and stupid things that no one really reads CHICO'S GROOVE PAYS OFF: For some strange reason, people like this thing. It's weird. A reader emailed us and said "I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP ME ON THIS LIST :)" That's pretty special. We've never gotten a "14 exclamation and a smiley thrown in for good measure" mail. And a couple of other people said they enjoyed this little thing. This is a classic example of "let's throw something together" and then having people like it. Which is pretty damn cool. DISSENSION FROM BELOW: As always, Disobey is always looking for damn good websites, and damn good ideas to add to its rank and file. We check hundreds of websites a week, all new, and those we like, we try to help out in any way we can. In some instances, we offer them space, a redesign, and freedom from the naziesque environment they might be coming from (tripod, geocities, etc). Well, one site, Socially Deranged Mentality (SDM) caught our attention, and held it for a quite a long time. We offered them space, a redesign, and better publicity. However: ==----------------------------------== To whom it may concern: I help keep a little zine alive called Socially Deranged Mentality. Maybe you've heard of it. I'm guessing that you have since you offered to take it under your wing. In case you didn't know, they ran your letter/message/whatever you call it and completely covered it with spit. Let me give you a few words of advice. DON'T YOU FUCKING DO IT! RETRACT THAT OFFER NOW! Let me give you a background of the hell you're getting yourself into. I got involved due to something they did to me that was borderline stalking. It began with this dick named Whitley and his friend whose grandmother lived down the street from me. One time they came up to visit and had heard of me and harassed me. It was hopeless to escape their requests for autographs. Every single book I had ever written just came at me and they had me sign them all. From there they harassed me about this project they were working on called Socially Deranged Mentality (SDM). I did right off the bat since they said they had the whole summer to get my say so. I saved myself the misery and signed up. They got me an email address and left town the next day. Cutting to the thick of it. Because of these dickheads I have been blackmailed (they threatened to tell my wife my whereabouts), insulted on a global scale, harassed by even more dipshits, and I think somehow they sold my soul to the devil (with them, it's probably possible). In order to get them off my back (which also makes it possible for me to write this), I had to give them the right to use any thing I've written (minus stuff like books and all that). As far as I am concerned, these guys are evil (Whitley, Seamus, and Pete, who I especially hate). Do yourself a favor and forget all about these guys, it will be much easier. One more thing, I checked out Devil Shat. I'd love to send something in. It beats the hell out of writing for that sophomoric bullshit rag. I've carried that thing since it came around and I'm ready for freedom from their tyranny and now I can do so. Just listen to me and don't get involved with these guys. It's only just began, right? It's not too late to back out. Sincerely, g. nih ton ==----------------------------------== We will keep you up to date as things progress, although it looks like that at least we'll get one thing: a new writer. I've informed SDM of this guy's dissension... that's just not kosher... although he does seem pretty angst-ridden. Of course, we have no way of confirming anything he has said, but we'll figure something out. NUMBER OF PAGES ON THE DISOBEY SITE: We got bored during our Meta Renewal Program, so we counted the number of pages we have on the site. There was a total of 88 of them. The even funnier thing is that one of the new sections we have planned (long way off) is going to almost double that number. Fun stuff, huh? And yes, contrary to popular disbelief, there is a secret page on the site. It's not that hard to find either. It contains our counter for the front page, and a secret challenge that was recently won by someone. See if you can find it. . . . : ; BLAHBLAHS OF THE WEEK: ( jan 1st - jan 14th ) [Junk Food of the Week]--= Austin Crackers ---Morbus' sister's mother-in-law bought him a big box of them because ---she knew the only life he has is in front of the computer where ---he needs food readily available. Comes in six exciting flavors. [Soda of the Week]--= Store 24 Brand Soda ---2 liter bottle of soda that cost .88 cents. Your typical cheap ---soda rip-off with flavors as "Dr. Zeppa", "Mountain Mist" ---and weirdo flavors as "Strawberry" and "Blue Raspberry". [Hassle of the Week]--= Finding Time To Do Anything ---there isn't enough time in the world to do everything we want to ---and have fun doing it. Plenty of fun still, but at the expense of ---other things. This is known as "opportunity cost". [Stupid Thing of the Week]--= Listening to CDs Over and Over Again ---Morbus has no money, and therefore can't buy new music. So ---he is listening to all of his CDs overagain... Twice. This is a poor ---attempt to save money so he can buy a new computer. It's not working, ---cos alot of his CDs suck. [Cool Place to Hang Out of the Week]--= Cafe Eclipse ---From a DJ booth, to cool people owning it, to promises of Internet ---and perhaps gaming terminals, this place is where we have been ---spending most of the time we don't have. (see above) [Why in Lord's Name Do I Get This... Of the Week]--= Videos ---For some strange reason, I keep getting these video game ---videos in the mail. I have a FF7 video, and a Diddy Kong ---Racing video. I have no clue why they send these things to me. [Dammit, 2 Hassles in One Week of the Week]--= Crashing Computer ---Morbus' computer got evil, and cost him a whole day of work ---as he had to reformat, reinstall, and reconfigure everything he had. ---Donate new computers to him. Um, we'll link to your site in ---exchange. . . . : ; The Issue Hasn't Been Thoroughly Discussed. . . . : ; SUBSCRIBE: majordomo@disobey.com BODY: Subscribe ChicosGroove . . . : ; UNSUBSCRIBE: majordomo@disobey.com BODY: Unsubscribe ChicosGroove
