Also, can i THEN override one of node's templates or methods? i want to have some sort of checkbox on the admin page saying "display list of pages under this node" for displaying 'subpages' (i have a hierarchical tree of content)

It's actually pretty much the norm for how extended items make it into node forms. Of course if two of them fight over some common elements of something there can be trouble.

[18:13:39]<peerce>marcfp; as I udnerstand it, you first need to verify that all your modules are supported in 5.x (this is hte biggie). if thats the case, disable all modules, offline the site, backup your ./sites and ./files, then rename the whole html folder to a .backup or something, and untar the new drupal core, restore your sites and files, replace all the modules with the 5.x equiv versions, and fire up the site, run the update.php script

I think it's got something to do with the url rewrite, I'm just not sure it's drupal's or gallery2's
